In summary it was a wondefully relaxing weekend. The weather was fair one day, bad (rainy) on another day, and good (sunny) on the third day, but this is what one might expect in North Wales. My main interets were revisiting a part of Wales I had been to on many occasions in my childhood, and also travelling on the newly-opened Welsh Highland Railway and also the Festiniog Railway, two wonderful and (each) unique attractions. Very helpful staff.

The style is old fashioned, which might put some people off, but suited me fine.

I found the hotel very poor, we where given a room out side of the hotel and told not to drink the water as it came from a tank but not given any bottle water .

        not much

Staff were brilliant, from reception to restaurant and the bar, they were pleasant, polite, and helpful. Food is excellent. Location is ideal for local beaches and mountains. Port Meirion 10 minutes away. The room needed an upgrade but was clean. I would stay here again

The rooms are large which is a bonus. The hotel is clean & fresh & located in a good spot in town (near pubs, beach). The pub downstairs serves good food & no noise from the pub can be heard from the rooms. The room was clean & tidy. Recommended.

        Breakfast was good

Room was small and little room to move. We had to walk outside to get back into the hotel for breakfast. The room was in a separate building.

        Locality.

The hotel was very over priced and needs a good lick of paint. We had to move rooms due to first room smelling of damp. Looked around other room and they smelt of smoke. Would have been happy if paid half the price as felt very disappointed with the what we got for our money.

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was good. We had a room in the Courtyard which was quiet and comfortable with sea and castle views. Would definately visit again if we were in the area.

I stayed at the Lion Hotel for a long weekend with family and found the staff extremely rude, especially the bar staff. The rooms were nice but we didnt get any sleep at all both nights due to a constant noise from the toilet cistern and every floor board in the hotel creaked and we heard people moving about constantly. We could hear conversations, snoring etc from the rooms either side and there sounded like a herd of elephants running about in the room above from 6am onwards!!!! The service at breakfast was slow, and we had finished our cooked breakfast before they had finally brought out the toast (1 slice per person). It wasnt worth asking for anymore because by the time it came, it was time to leave.

The location was great. The breakfast was nice and there was a good amount of parking.

The rooms in general were very tired and drastically in need of decorating and update. One room in particular had a damp problem and smelt very musty.

Receptionists were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and coffee and toast arrived at the table immediately. Variety of food for breakfast was good and the hot food good. My main reason for choosing this hotel was that I was able to take my dog. The dog was allowed to stay in the room for short periods of time which was really helpful when wanting food. My son and I shared a twin room in the block outside so it was very relaxing as I felt I did not have to worry about the dog too much. The room was small but we were out all day. It was so nice to come back each day to find the coffee packs had been topped up and there were fresh towels if needed. We loved Criccieth. An ideal base. There were lots of pensioners at the hotel but I thought it was good to see elderly people being catered.

The carpets in the outer block probably need a steam clean at the end of each season as dogs are allowed (thank goodness)

the situation is convenient for a variety of activities to sort all age groups

For the price we paid for this hotel is not worth it. There was dog hair in the room which made me wease throughout the night as I am asmatic, the room was dusty and had cob webs. The bath had hair in it and the rubber bath mat had black mould on it. When we complained at the reception we were told in future we should ask if there have been animals in the room. If the room was cleaned properly we wouldnt have had to complain. Why is it our responsibility to ask they should inform us of any animals have stayed in the room, even though we didnt travel with any animals. The buffet breakfast was not up to much either.
